Year 2 music: Meeting the King of the Jungle

This movement from The Carnival of Animals is called Royal March of the Lion. This movement is especially attractive to children and the duration is great for a few replays.

In music class, we use this song to give children an introductory lesson on "motifs." With some appropriate preparation work before the listening activity (e.g. teacher can sing the motif a few times before the actual listening so that children are prepared to look for the right melody); even children from KS1 can accurately count the number of the "lion motif" in the song.

By students' request, I've put it up hear so that they can listen to it at home. How many "lions" can you hear in the song?
