"If a person can't read or write, you don't assume that this person is incapable of it, just that he or she hasn't learned how to do it. The same is true of creativity. When people say they're not creative, it's often because they don't know what's involved or how creativity works in practice." wrote Sir Ken Robinson in his book THE ELEMENT. Hopefully, this site can open a door for parents, teachers and our beloved children.
Film Recommendation - Polar Express (2004)

The Polar Expressis originally an award-winning book written by Chris van Allsburg. It tells the story about a boy's journey to the North Pole on a train that has stopped by his bedroom on Christmas eve. In 2004, the movie version of the story was released and became one of children's favorite winter stories. I would highly recommend this film to children 9+; they just don't get enough of adventure stories like this one!
In the movie, there is a beautiful Christmas song sung by two children on the train. Here is the video for it, hope you enjoy it!
A Christmas Treat 2: Painting with light
On this special day, I'd like to share with you all two beautiful videos. The first is an awesome performance by a light painter in Japan, accompanied by a piece of inspiring music called "You Raise me Up."
Let's not go astray on Christmas Day
We all know that Christmas is not about presents, parties or Santa Claus nor is it merely about love - to be precise, it is about God's love. Whether you are religious or not, the story of Jesus has undoubtedly played a big role in Western history. Therefore, it is a story that children need to learn. During this joyful time, let's not get too overwhelmed by decorations and holiday fun; spare some quiet time with your children and tell this story that has changed the world. =)Justin Bieber sings "Someday at Christmas"
I occasionally share pop songs with students - it takes much more effort and preparation than sharing classical music because much scanning and research has to be done. I have to make sure that the lyrics, the song's and singer's background, the video's message and everything else are appropriate to make appearance in a primary classroom. It's worth the time though because it gives children more listening alternatives. Parents and teachers need to remember the name of this this young Canadian singer, Justin Bieber. Students as young as 8 years old are already talking about him. Justin Bieber started his career as a pop singer at the age of 14. He has won numerous music award inlcuding the Grammy Award 2011.
Here's a video of him singing for President Obama of the United States in before Christmas 2009. He's singing a meaningful Christmas song by Stevie Wonder, a legendary singer-composer. Hope you like this special Christmas song during this holiday season! =)
Someday At Christmas (1967, Stevie Wonder)
Someday at Christmas men won't be boys
Someday at Christmas there'll be no wars
Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday at Christmas we'll see a land
Someday at Christmas there'll be no tears
Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday all our dreams will come to be

Christmas Song #1: White Christmas
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
Christmas Song #2: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
Rocking around the Christmas Tree
at the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
Ev'ry couple tries to stop
You will get a sentimental feeling When you hear voices singing
"Let's be jolly; Deck the halls with boughs of holly" Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone's dancing merrily
In a new old fashioned way
Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Let the Christmas Spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie
and we'll do some caroling
You will get a sentimental feeling When you hear voices singing
"Let's be jolly; Deck the halls with boughs of holly"
Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone's dancing merrily
In a new old fashioned way
Christmas Song #3: Let it Snow!
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
It doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I've bought some corn for popping,
The lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.
The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bying,
But as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
Christmas Song #4: Frosty the Snowman
Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say,
He was made of snow but the children
Know how he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that
Old silk hat they found.
For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around.
O, Frosty the snowman
Was alive as he could be,
And the children say he could laugh
And play just the same as you and me.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.
Frosty the snowman knew
The sun was hot that day,
So he said, "Let's run and
We'll have some fun
Now before I melt away."
Down to the village,
With a broomstick in his hand,
Running here and there all
Around the square saying,
Catch me if you can.
He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cop.
And he only paused a moment when
He heard him holler "Stop!"
For Frosty the snow man
Had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye saying,
"Don't you cry,
I'll be back again some day."
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.
Christmas Song #5: The Twelve Days of Christmas
Christmas Song #6: Silent Night
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth "
